Who We Are
Sigma Phi Epsilon at Georgetown is a social fraternity founded on the principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Established in 2005 and nationally chartered in 2007, SigEp’s DC Gamma chapter is comprised of 70 undergraduates and over 100 alumni brothers.
Our chapter seeks to provide a fraternity experience uniquely suited to Georgetown’s campus environment. We take the best the Greek tradition has to offer — a sense of community through brotherhood; vibrant social life through a strong campus presence; and a wide range of career and networking opportunities through sustained alumni involvement — and exclude less constructive elements like pledging and hazing, which aren’t in line with our values here at Georgetown.
SigEps are both top scholars and talented athletes. DC Gamma participates in the Balanced Man Program, a member development initiative geared toward the practices of Sound Mind and Sound Body. Our chapter GPA of 3.6 places us in the top five of all SigEp chapters nationally, and, in addition to having brothers on varsity and club sports teams, we have intramural squads which are perennially fun and competitive.
Members participate in a number of social and member development events throughout the year. Each semester begins with an off-campus retreat and ends with a celebratory formal dinner and dance. Other outings occur over the course of a semester, and past examples include white water rafting, paint balling, museum visits, and a trip to the Busch Gardens amusement park, to name a few. Community service is also an element of the SigEp experience. Our chapter hosts a number of service activities each year, and last year’s projects included a Habitat for Humanity build in Baltimore, Maryland, and holiday wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery.
Brothers are encouraged to be active participants in the campus community beyond SigEp, as well. Since its founding, DC Gamma has always recruited the best leaders and community members that Georgetown has to offer. We’re proud to have brothers involved in student government, student businesses, political organizations, a cappella groups, inner-city tutoring programs, prison outreach groups, varsity and club sports teams, and more.
College is an exciting and important time in a person’s life, and who and what one chooses to associate himself with has a significant impact on the experience. SigEp’s goal is to make these four years as memorable, fulfilling, and rewarding as possible for its members, and we welcome all those looking to grow as leaders, scholars, athletes, and gentlemen.
